Our First Travel Blog

This is the first post on our new blog. I’m just getting this new blog going, so stay tuned for more. Subscribe below to get notified when I post new updates.

The idea first came to me many years ago when we had some friends from church (Gary and Bobbie) buy a motor home and travel full time.

Jump ahead several years later, I lost another place to deer hunt.  Now the closest place I had to hunt was about an hour away. Hunting until dark and being back way before daylight makes this very difficult.

So I bought my first travel trailer for deer camp.  Sherry came and stayed with me a night or two and actually liked it.  I was surprised that she liked it. So as you can imagine I was shocked when I said maybe we could buy a trailer and travel full time and she said that sounds great.  I had that trailer for only about 3 months because it was a piece of junk.

That was 5 years ago.  Just a couple of weeks ago, we bought our full-time RV (2016 Forest River Vengeance 39R12 fifth wheel toy hauler.)  I also got a 2013 Chevy Silverado 3500HD Dually to pull it with.

I plan to retire 12/31/2019 and we plan to hit the road full time 1/1/2020.   So far we have stayed in the camper one night where I store it, until this week-end, 9/27 – 9/30 we camped in it for the first time as a trial run.  We stayed at Timberline Campgrounds in Goodfield, IL. The first two nights we had rain, wind, thunder, lightning and of course tornado warnings!!! We survived the first nights, but it has rained off and on all week-end.  This reminds me of camping as a kid, it ALWAYS rained on us, EVERY TRIP!

The campground is pretty nice and all the people seem pretty friendly.  However, whenever it wasn’t raining, kids (and a few adults) were riding around constantly on golf carts, 4 wheelers, and motorcycles.  They never went real fast, and none of them were really loud, so we didn’t mind. But if this is something that would bother you, this might not be the campground for you.

Here is a list of amenities according to their brochure

  • Pool
  • Clean Restrooms with Hot Showers
  • Wifi
  • Themed Weekends
  • Wagon Rides
  • Bouncy Pillow
  • Fishing
  • Dump Station

  • Mini Golf
  • Pedal Carts
  • Gem Mining
  • Snack Bar & Convenient Store

Since it was so late in the year, the campground was not too crowded and there were not a whole lot of activities going on.

In the future, I plan to blog about our full-time travel and adventures.  I will post about the places we stay and the things we do. Sherry plans on starting her own blog on the places we eat.  However, do not expect regular blog posts until January 2020 when we retire and get on the road.
