Let’s Eat – New Orleans
When in New Orleans it is a must to go eat at Cafe du Monde. Cafe du Monde only has Beignets and beverages. The Beignets were hot and fresh and covered in powdered sugar.

o the 1st day there the owner told me to watch for the alligator in the back pond. He said I was probably OK, it’s been so cold and rainy he wouldn’t be on the bank sunning himself. I halfway thought he was just pulling my leg, but he insisted the gator had been hanging around in one corner of the pond, and they had been trying to catch him and take him to the bayou.
To catch him, I just threw the treble hook past him, reeled it up to him and snagged him. I hooked him and Sherry called Dave, but he got off and I actually hooked him 2 more times before I got him hooked good. I had to fight him for what seemed like 1/2 hour, but I’m sure it was just several minutes until Dave and his helper Jimmy showed up with a catchpole.
Magnolia Table Okay, here it is, finally. For those of you who did not know we visited Waco, Texas and visited Magnolia the Silos. At first, I did not want to go to Magnolia Table but after checking Tripadvisor and reading the reviews, I decided it was a place not to be missed. The only problem is fighting the crowds and the long wait, which can be up to two hours according to some reviews I read. So we decided…
The first group of photos is of roosting Sandhill Cranes. They roost in trees right across the street from the bay. Apparently, they are there all the time because there is a sign and fence around the area to keep people away. But the birds are used to people, there was a group of cars parked and people taking pictures.
As I mentioned in our blog yesterday, we walked the San Antonio Riverwalk. The Riverwalk is a very beautiful two story walk along the Sam Antonio River. We were there on a Thursday afternoon in January, so it was not very crowded at all. The San Antonio Riverwalk has many restaurants and a few small craft and gift shops. Some of the restaurants included; Bubba Gumps, Dick’s Last Resort, The Rain Forrest Cafe, and Joe’s Crab Shack. But we have…
Monday we went to Waco, TX and visited Magnolia and Branding the Brazos. Magnolia is the Chip and Joanna Gaines empire from the TV show Fixer Upper. My impression is that it is a tourist trap for women. They had lots of household decorations, kitchen gadgets and other women’s entrapments. I am glad we now live in an RV so we don’t have room, or I know we would have been bringing something home. We ate breakfast at the Magnolia…
Today we did the tourist thing to do when you are in San Antonio, we got to Remember the Alamo and walk the San Antonio Riverwalk. This blog post will be about the Alamo. Tomorrow I’ll try to get a blog about the Riverwalk. We really enjoyed the Alamo. It is a very educational history lesson. One tip I want to give you if you plan to Remember the Alamo: It is FREE to tour. Our neighbors in our campground…
We decided to get the desert sampler which included the famous buttermilk pie and a sample of pecan, blackberry and peach cobblers.
We have moved to the Dancing Bee Winery and Walker Honey Farm in Rogers, Texas. We are staying as their guests as members of Harvest Hosts. Harvest Host is a membership club that has a lot of wineries, breweries, farms, golf courses, etc. where you can boondock for free. Most of these places offer goods or services and when you boondock on their property, you are expected to buy something. The people here at the Dancing Bee Winery are super…
Today I started my classes at the National RV Training Academy. The classes are from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. and then there’s homework. So it doesn’t leave much time but I am enjoying the class. Some of it is pretty basic stuff I already know from owning a home built in 1906, and owning many old clunker cars and trucks over the years. An RV is kind of a combination of both, lots of maintenance. But, I found out…
