Wildlife in America, Rockport Texas area
This blog is mostly photos of Wildlife in America we saw in Rockport Texas. If you are viewing on your phone, hold it sideways for most of the photos to enlarge.
Sandhill Cranes
The first group of photos is of roosting Sandhill Cranes. They roost in trees right across the street from the bay. Apparently, they are there all the time because there is a sign and fence around the area to keep people away. But the birds are used to people, there was a group of cars parked and people taking pictures.
Pelicans
This next group of photos is of Pelican Pier. It is quite obvious how it got its name and I think you can figure it out. The Pelicans were there every day that we drove by.
Elephant
OK, this next one is not exactly wildlife, but it is a pretty creative use of a palm tree stump, probably damaged in hurricane Harvey in 2017. Harvey directly hit Rockport and it’s been 2 1/2 year and there is still a lot of damage evident.
Deer
The next one is of a small buck about 40 yards behind our camper. Our neighbors are full-time residents in a camper here. They lost their home in Harvey and the insurance company wouldn’t pay enough for them to rebuild. So they tore it down, sold their lot and now live here.
Anyway, he has a feeder back there and we have seen deer and coons, but it’s usually too dark to photograph.
This last one is a short video clip. The brownish blob you see swimming in the water is a jellyfish. He kept changing shapes to move around objects as he floated along in the current.
That is all the photos I have for now. We saw a lot more wildlife, but usually, our cameras were not ready. I’m sure I will be posting more Wildlife in America as we travel about the country.
