Let’s Eat – Mandeville

Mandeville Seafood

During our stay in Fontainebleau State Park, we were told by a fellow camper to check out Mandeville Seafood. Since we were close to the coast Tim wanted to find some good seafood. We went there for lunch on a weekday and the parking lot was packed. This place was a seafood market and a small restaurant. The menu board was posted up above the counter where you place an order. Food will be brought to your table. One fun aspect was the tables were named after popular Mardi Gras Krews.

They had fried shrimp, catfish, and oysters by the pound. Boiled crawfish, shrimp, crabs, Dungeness crabs, and snow crabs, were also available by the pound. They also boil by the pound, potatoes, sausage, mushrooms, corn, and garlic. For the landlubbers, they had your standard salads, chicken tenders, hamburgers, po boys and club sandwiches. Family meals were also available for carryout.

Our Meal

One pound of crawfish

Tim ordered one pound of crawfish and loved eating them, even though he was not as good as the locals who order 3 to 5 pounds at a time. They popped the heads off and sucked them right down. Tim could not get the hang of it. He had to peel them by hand to get the meat out. He had only eaten crawfish one other time, on a camping trip when a friend, (John) taught Tim how to boil and eat a bunch of crawfish that they had caught.

Club Sandwich and potato salad

I do not particularly like seafood so I ordered the club sandwich. The club sandwich was huge, so big I took some meat off of it so I could get my mouth around it. Even then I only ate half of my club. Since Tim was a beginner at the crawfish, and he only ordered one pound, he ate the other half of my sandwich. The potato salad was also homemade and very good. That I did not share with Tim. So if you find yourself in Mandeville I suggest you go check out Mandeville Seafood. I even passed on this recommendation to a couple of other campers in our campground.
