During our two week stay at the Texan RV Park in Athens Texas, we only ate out a couple of times. Mainly because Tim had class until 5 pm every night and then had homework to do before the next day. Also because I had nothing to do during the day, so I had plenty of time to make us lunch and dinners.

Ole West Bean and Burger

The first place we visited in Athens, Texas was the Ole West Bean and Burger. This restaurant has four locations in Texas. We ended up here on a recommendation from a few of Tim’s classmates. It was a stormy night so the restaurant was not crowded just a handful of tables were occupied. The menu was extensive, they have everything from salads, stuffed potatoes, steaks, seafood, burgers, and other various dinner options. There was also a salad bar for a nominal charge. The salad bar had a variety of toppings. Tim ordered the chicken fried chicken with the salad bar and I got the ribeye steak sandwich with fries. There was plenty of food and Tim even brought half of his dinner home. The best thing about this place was the free Blue Bell Ice cream. They had six flavors of ice cream in a freezer and you are free to dip yourself up a scoop or two. Apparently Blue Bell Ice Cream is very big down here in Texas, who knew.

Athens Brewing Company

The second place we visited was Athens Brewing Co. Again on a recommendation we went to this brewery. When we walked in they just started trivia night so Tim and I enjoy trivia even though we are not good at it, in fact, we won the loser prize, a free beer. In our defense, all the other teams had 4 to 6 people on them and it was just Tim and I. Off the menu I ordered the ABC sliders with fries and Tim chose the OG burger with fries. The food came out on slate tiles which we found to be very creative, and It was also very good. We really enjoyed our night out here and want to try to visit a few more breweries during our travels.
