Things have not gone as planned.

Things have not gone as planned.

Things have not gone as planned, and I know it’s been a long time since we have posted a blog. I just want to catch everyone up on our adventures (or lack thereof), because we have been getting a lot of questions about when we will be hitting the road again.

As with everyone else, 2020 has not gone as planned for us because of Covid-19. We ended our adventures a little early because the RV Entrepreneurs Summit we were going to was canceled and the RV park we were going to stay at closed. Since we had a home to come back to, we just came home because we knew there were a lot of full-time RVer’s who did not have a place to come back to and they would be struggling to find a campground to stay at.

Our plan was to come home, load everything we own into trailers and, take it to the auction. Well, since the state of Illinois shut down, we could not have an auction. We have been selling things one at a time on FaceBook Market Place, and eBay. It takes forever to take pictures, find a box, weigh, and ship everything you own, one at a time.

We had planned to be back on the road by July 1, and have our house up for sale. It is taking forever, but we are getting close. We have got 5 out of the 8 rooms in our house basically cleaned out. We have sold a lot of stuff. It is amazing how much stuff you accumulate after 29 years of marriage and living in the same house for 23 years.

Another set back!

Last week we got a letter from the city. They are going to tear out the streets around our house. They were supposed to do this 7 years ago but kept putting it off. Now that we are moving out, they are finally going to do it.

We are on a very large lot and we have streets on 3 sides of us. They are going to tear out the streets beside our house, and behind our garage, so all 4 of our driveways will be inaccessible.

So we have shifted our concentration of getting the house cleaned out first, to get the garage cleaned out. Today I took 970 lbs. of scrap steel I had accumulated over the years from welding projects to the scrap yard. They are going to start tearing out the streets Aug. 1st.

A new dilemma!

Now that they are tearing out two of the three streets around us, the value of our home will go way down during the mess. However, once it’s all over, the value of our home SHOULD go up.

So now we have to decide if we are going to try to sell now or wait until the whole street project is done. IF everything goes as planned the project is not scheduled to be done until June 2021. But as you know, rarely do these projects get done on time.

We might try to put the house on the market for just a short time to see if it sells as-is. If it doesn’t sell, we will keep it and spend the winter fixing some things up to help increase the value and sell when the street project is all done.

  1. I have thought of you often, especially recently when we very rarely get our mail or even see a mailman. I am so sorry you have been impacted so badly during this covid-19 pandemic, praying for it to end soon and let everyone get back to whatever the new normal will be. We will continue to follow your travels and may you be blessed along the way.

  2. Wow! The update isn’t what we’re looking for, but it’s nice to read what’s going on. Hope you get your home sold so you can get back on the road!
