Boondocking on the beach, Brazoria County, Texas

For the next few days, we are boondocking on the beach just south of Galveston, TX. Beautiful beaches, soothing ocean waves, unbelievable views, and it’s free. What more could you ask for?

Brazoria Public Beach

I’m laying in bed writing this while Sherry takes a nap. It’s taking me forever to write it because I keep looking out the window to see this:

View out of our bedroom window

It turned cloudy right after we got here but it’s 76 degrees. We are supposed to get some rain tonight, but it should clear up tomorrow.

View out the living room window

There are a few other campers here, but not many. The closest one is 100+ yards away. I find it hard to believe it’s not more crowded. There are many campgrounds in the area that are nearly full.

Vinney on the beach

The wind is blowing pretty strong now, but I think that is normal around here.

Looking south down the beach

Since it’s our first time camping on the beach, we timed it so we got here when it was high tide so we know where it is safe to park.

Standing in the dunes looking at the ocean

We found several Jellyfish high and dry on the beach. We don’t know if this is normal, or they got stranded somehow? So I picked up a few of them and rescued them. As soon as they hit the water they disappeared into the ocean. I’m not sure if this was the right thing to do it not. Below are several pictures of one of the rescues.

There are several nice houses just on the other side of the dunes along the beach.

But there are still a few in need of repair presumably from the hurricane.

House for sale on beach. Fixer upper. Needs minor repairs. Ready for you to move right in.

So for the next few days, we will be boondocking on the beach. You might not be hearing much from us. But you can bet, as the Zack Brown Band song says we’ll have our toes in the water, ass in the sand, Not a worry in the world, a cold beer in my hand

  1. I forgot to mention, for anyone interested in camping here; Verizon, and AT&T have good coverage, usually 2 or 3 bars and no dropped calls. OTR Mobile was also good with 35.2 Mbps download and 21.2 Mbps upload speeds.
