An easy fix for cables getting stuck in toy-hauler doors.
We spent the last year before we started our full-time travel adventure searching for the perfect RV. We knew we wanted a toy-hauler, so we looked at many of them. At least 3 times that I can remember, we closed or watched the owners close the toy-hauler garage door. Every time, there was an issue with the cables that support the door while in the patio position. When you close the doors, one or both of the cables would get caught between the door and the jam preventing the doors from being latched. So we needed to come up with a simple solution for toy-haler cables.
When closing the garage door, if the cables on both sides are not pushed in at the same time, then they get stuck between the door and the jam. Therefore to close the doors, you need 2 people; one outside raising the door and pushing in one cable, and one inside holding the other cable in to keep them from getting in the way.
Since we bought our toy-hauler, we have had the same problem. It takes both of us to close our toy-hauler door. I have closed it by myself, but it took a lot of back and forth, a few choice words, and a little bit of luck.
A simple solution for toy-haler cables.
One of the many sleepless nights I have had lately thinking about getting ready for our adventures, a simple solution for toy-haler cables popped into my head at 3:30 AM. A Bungie cord between the cables when closing the door to pull them in away from the door and jam.
I tried it out today, and it works perfectly. I have opened and closed my door several times today and it never failed me.
Then when we go to open up the garage door, I will just slip off the Bungie cord and store it away until we are ready to close the door again.
Sometimes it’s the simple little solutions that make life easier. I hope this idea can help those of you who own a toy hauler.
