Poche’s Rv Park & Fish-N-Camp, Breaux Bridge, LA
Since we started our adventure, Poche’s RV Park & Fish-N-Camp is my favorite RV park so far. We stayed at Poche’s Rv Park & Fish-N-Camp in Breaux Bridge, LA 2/7/2020 – 2/12/2020. They have 88 RV sites, 6 cabins, and tent camping. Fifty of Poche’s 85 total acres is water, 5 different fishing ponds in all. Actually the week we were there they had so much rain I think there were more than 50 acres of water.
Poche’s is a Passport America RV Park, so if you are a member you get 1/2 price for Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday. If you are not a member, click on the link below to join. It is an affiliate link, so if you do, we get a small commission, and you will save a lot at 1,600 campgrounds.
Poche’s seems to be a very popular attraction with locals. It was practically empty when we got there on Friday but quickly filled up. Then by Sunday night, it was practically empty again.
Although we didn’t use it since we now have our own, they do have free wifi. We both used our phones, and both AT&T and Verizon had good reception.
One problem we did have is that the hookups are completely behind the concrete pads, not beside them like at most RV parks. So our sewer hose was not long enough.
We have a Wastemaster sewer system. It connects to your RV drain pipe with 2 cam buckles instead of the twist-lock that most systems use. I love it because it stays connected while not in use. When we get where we are going, all I have to do is pull it out, stick it in the drain, and flip the lever to open it.
The problem this caused is we couldn’t just run out and buy a Wastemaster Extension because nobody local had this brand. So we had to order one and could not dump our tanks for 3 more days. Like all things RV, the extension hose was very expensive.
As my friends and family know, I love to fish. While we were at Poche’s RV Park & Fish-N-Camp we had a pond about 10 yards from our back deck, a pond about 50 yards out the front of our RV, and a pond about 30 yards from the side of our RV. In total there are 5 ponds at Poche’s. They are stocked with bass, bream, sac-a-lait, and catfish. For my friends and family from IL, bream = bluegill, sac-a-lait = crappie.
The fishing was just OK because a severe cold front and rain came through while we were there. I did manage to catch enough for 3 meals. Technically it was enough to feed 6 people, but Sherry doesn’t like fish that much, so I ate enough for 6, and she had just a couple of bites each meal. I caught crappie, bass, bluegill, and catfish.
So now you know why I haven’t been posting blogs lately, I’ve been too busy fishing. Just wait until you hear my fishing story from our next location.
New friends we met at Poche’s Rv Park & Fish-N-Camp
I know I’ve said this before, but they say “you’ll meet the nicest people while camping.” While at Poche’s I spent many hours fishing with my new friends Shelby and Becky from Tennesse. The first evening we were fishing, Shelby had caught a few, and I hadn’t yet, so he offered me his rod and reel all baited up with a jig and tube bait under a bobber and ready to go. Did I mention we had just met a few minutes before?
During all the time fishing, Shelby and I fed all the hungry, saved thousands of sinners, straightened out kids nowadays, ended wars, and solved the rest of the world’s problems. Shelby is just a down-home good ‘ole boy, so we really hit it off.
If they are home when we go through Tennesse, they invited us to stay at their place. This is called “Moochdocking”, (mooching off someone else’s hookups). Or if we stay somewhere else, at least look them up to hit the local fishing hot spots. I really think it’s so I can find the big crappie for Shelby again! 🙂
We also met Benny, (and unfortunately I didn’t get his wife’s name) also from Tennesse. We didn’t see much of them as they were out exploring the area most days, but they were our next-door neighbors. They also invited us to stay at their place in Tennesse. I guess we’re all set up for Tennesse.
Then there were the two couples that we met when we went to the “cajun band” that played at the clubhouse on Saturday night. We had a great time visiting and comparing camping stories and locations with them. We really got some more great tips on where to go and what to do.
One side note that has nothing to do with Poche’s, other than they are in Louisiana. One thing I do have to say about Louisiana in general, they don’t need any speed limit signs. I thought Illinois roads were bad, but in Louisiana, they are so bad you have to stay 10-20 MPH under the speed limit so your teeth don’t get jarred loose.
