Let’s Eat – New Orleans

Cafe du Monde

We were in New Orleans during Mardi Gras 2020. I have been told by several people when we are in New Orleans we have to go eat at Cafe du Monde. Check out their link and read about their history. I was really surprised to find out they are open 24 hours a day except on Christmas and the occasional hurricane. As soon as we parked I told Tim lets walk towards the French Quarter and find Cafe du Monde. I said to look for a place with a line out the door that is about a block long. Tim was not looking forward to standing in a long line. Luckily when we found the cafe the line was moving fast and was not very long. We were told by a couple in line with us that you get your beignets faster if you just sit down at a table and let the waitress take care of you. So we made our way through the crowd and claimed a recently vacated table. Their menu is posted on the napkin dispenser.

Beignets

As you can see the only thing you can order at Cafe du Monde is Beignets and beverages. Tim and I each got an order of Beignets and a glass of water. A Beignet is a fried square piece of dough that is covered in powdered sugar. It is a French pastry and is pronounced “Ben – yay”. I thought they were amazing, but most of my enjoyment was the actual experience of eating fresh Beignets at Cafe du Monde. Tim did not think the Beignets were all that special. A definite must-do if you ever find yourself in New Orleans. I also learned by looking at the website that there are several Cafe du Monde’s both in and around New Orleans so you do not have to fight the New Orleans traffic in order to get your Beignet fix. So if you find yourself in Louisiana, Let’s eat New Orleans, Cafe du Monde.

  1. We enjoy beignets at Cafe Beignet around Orange Beach, but I don’t know how they compare to those you had. Hmmm
