Tonight we are boondocking in Lake Charles, LA at the Crying Eagle Brewing Company, a Harvest Host location.

New friends

We had a great time with Ed and Sandy, a couple we met who was also boondocking here through Harvest Host. They have been traveling full-time in their RV for over 6 years, so they were a wealth of knowledge for us newbies. We got a lot of tips and advise from them.

Thanks Ed and Sandy, we hope to meet up on the road again sometime soon. We’ve heard the people you meet on the road are some of the nicest people and we’re starting to believe it.

The tour

Even though the Crying Eagle only gives tours on Fridays and Saturdays, they were nice enough to give us a tour since we were just passing through and wouldn’t be here Friday or Saturday.

We had fun and it was a very interesting tour. It’s a very small brewery compared to Bush, the only other brewery we have toured. They make several different beers and they are always experimenting with new flavors.

They have had a few flavors take off and they can’t keep up with the demand. You can see their flavors on their web site. They have recently added a couple of new tanks and will be adding a new location soon.

As they grow the Crying Eagle will soon start buying their grain in bulk. The grain bin pictured below is where it will be delivered and stored. Then it will be fed into the mill room where it will be ground up.

If you are ever in the Lake Charles, Louisiana area, I suggest you stop in to the Crying Eagle Brewery. You won’t be disappointed and you won’t be alone. The parking lot was full, it has become a popular local hang out.
